It’s been said that our love for Japanese whisky is sending the world into a well-aged whisky drought!
That’s right, apparently no-one anticipated the rise in popularity of Japanese whisky (outside of Japan) and as such distillers are working around the clock to keep up with the demand.
At the heart of the Japanese whisky movement is Shinjiro Torii, the Founder of Suntory. Torii courageously produced the first Japanese whisky back in the 1920’s and today, Suntory is the No.1 whisky distiller in Japan, known for its flagship single malt whisky Yamazaki, Hakushu and the blended whisky Hibiki.
QT Gold Coast’s Japanese restaurant Yamagen are sure to whet your appetite! They have over 75 varietals of whisky on offer, one of Australia’s largest Japanese Whisky collections!
Guests will have the opportunity to speak with self-proclaimed ‘whisky fanatic’ Dan Woolley from the prestigious Suntory group. Not only does Woolley have the word WHISKY tattooed across his knuckles, he has a collection of more than 800 bottles of whisky at home and travels the globe visiting distilleries – all in the name of research, of course.
In addition to firsthand insights into the Japanese whisky industry and exclusive tasting opportunities, Yamagen’s Executive Chef Adam Lane has created an exciting six-course menu paired with a selection of Suntory’s most sensational drops; such as the Sakura smoked ocean trout paired with Hakushu Distillers Reserve and the succulent wagyu beef sirloin MS6+ paired with Yamazaki 12 Year.
